OTEC School of Journalism and Communication Studies holds workshop on emotional intelligence for its students

The Management of OTEC School of Journalism and Communication Studies at Asawasi in the Ashanti Region have organized a training workshop on emotional intelligence for its students.

The workshop according to the school’s management was organized with the aim of improving the emotional skills the students to help them deal with difficult situations.

Held on Friday November 19, 2023, the event brought together psychologists, educationist, Lecturers and students together at the facility’s campus..

 The facilitators trained and engaged the students with different learning hacks and activities, drawing attention to key important issues that must be very assisting for them when engaging with others.

Besides these, the trainers also focused on helping the students develop soft skills, controlling emotions, and accepting challenges.

In his welcome address, the Patron for Students Representative Council SRC, and a Senior Lecturer at school, Mathew Donkor underscored the need for students to learn stress management

He emphasize that, a good mastery of stress management was vital for all in the current all demanding society

He however commended the school for the workshop adding that the importance of emotional competence at all levels from team work to leadership was immense.

The Chief Executive Officer for PNAJ Research and Business Consult Mr Prince Amoako who was one of the facilitators of the workshop, revealed that, most of suicide case in schools were attributed to the lack of emotional intelligence

He has therefore called for intensive education on emotional intelligence to help Ghanaian youth understand how to deal with bad times

“One of the major job requirements of today’s industry is Emotional Intelligence rather than Intelligent Quotient and other hard skills, that’s the more reason students are required to be emotionally instable”, he said.
