We don’t need you in Ashanti region – NPP youth ban Wontumi for allegedly attacking Asantehene

The Ashanti Youth, a youth group in the Ashanti region has ‘banished’ the Ashanti Regional chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi Boasiako from the Ashanti region.
The group has also ban the chairman for entering all the chiefs’ palaces in the Ashanti region to attend any event, either as an individual or as a group.

The banishment comes after the alleged comments made by the chairman on January 3, 2024, which sort to challenge the authority of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The alleged comments happened during the parliamentary vetting of Member of Parliament for Manhyia South Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, by a committee chaired by NPP National Organizer Henry Nana Boakye.

During the vetting, Bernard Antwi Boasiako also known as Chairman Wontumi, is said to have disagreed with the Chief of Kokoso, Nana Kwaku Duah, the chairman for the Council of Elders in Manhyia South on issues regarding to Hon Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh.

In the said disagreement, Chairman Wontumi is alleged to have said he owned a Kingdom, has his own military, police and he is entitled to speak his mind in the Ashanti Kingdom even if he disagrees with Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Though Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako has vehemently denied the allegation, Chief of Kokoso, Nana Kwaku Duah, insisted that chairman Wontumi made that disrespectful statement against the Overlord of Ashanti Kingdom in his presence.
During a press conference on Monday, January 17, 2024, the spokesperson of Ashanti Youth, Amaning Kwarteng, described the comments made by Chairman Wontumi as “disrespect and disregard to the Golden Stool that need not to be tolerated in the Ashanti Kingdom”.

In view of that, the Ashanti Youth, with support from the all the markets traders in the Ashanti region, has asked the National Executives of the NPP to withdraw Chairman Wontumi from the Ashanti, though they are not against the party.
“If Chairman Wontumi thinks he is bigger than Asanteman we don’t need him in the Ashanti, he should go to where he has built his security and Kingdom and live. We are not against the NPP, but against the disrespected Wontumi,” they said.
“We are asking the national leadership of the NPP to choose between Wontumi and votes in the Ashanti. The party shouldn’t forget that it is where it is today because of the votes it amassed from Ashanti, so the party should choose wisely,” Kwarteng advised the NPP.
The group also appealed to all chiefs who pay allegiance to the Golden Stool never to grant Wontumi an audience in their various palaces for grossly disrespecting the Golden Stool.
“We want to further state that the Ashanti Youth is highly disappointed in the National Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, for trying to cover up for Wontumi’s unguided remarks against the Golden Stool” the spokesperson said.
Their reason being that “Nana B has denied on various radio stations in the country that Chairman Wontumi didn’t make such statements, only to be revealed by the Kokosohene Nana Kwaku Duah that indeed Wontumi made such statement,” he added.
