Patrick Kwame Frimpong, Presiding Member for KMA
Krofrom East Assembly Member, Patrick Kwame Frimpong was retained as the Presiding Member of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) at a ceremony held yesterday for the reconstituted Assembly.
Mr Frimpong secured an impressive 55 YES votes out of the gathered 66 Assembly Members, solidifying his candidature.
The election faced a runoff after the initial attempt, where all three candidates, including Frimpong, fell short of securing a two-thirds majority.
The two main contenders, Aggripa Opoku and Ernest Ofori Baffour, managed 5 and 19 votes respectively.
Speaking after his election, Mr Frimpong expressed his commitment to uniting the Assembly.
He noted his commitment to fostering development at the grassroots level.
“With this renewed mandate I pledge to bring positive changes and progress closer to the people in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly”, Mr Frimpong stated.
Addressing the Assembly earlier, Kumasi Mayor, Hon Samuel Pyne said the Assembly remains committed to enforcing sanitation laws to rid the city of filth.
He recalled that at least 20 people faced court for violating sanitation laws, last year.
The Mayor cautioned that perpetrators will not be spared.
“The KMA is determined to rid the city of filth and all insanitary conditions. I therefore caution the public to desist from dumping refuse and carrying out acts that fuels insanitary conditions”, the Mayor cautioned.
