An aspirant for National Chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Ayesu Ntim says nothing will stop him from contesting the chairmanship race.
This follows pleas by President Akufo-Addo for him to step down for another contestant, Alhaji Abubakar Abdul-Raman, popularly known as Alhaji Short .
“I was called by President Nana to step down but I told him in the face that I won’t and so nothing or no one can cow me. My people are solidly behind me because they believe in me and what I am capable of doing”, he said.
According to him, the campaign team of Alhaji Short have launched a verbal attack on his person for suggesting that he [Alhaji Short] was not known in the party.
Ntim said it was worrying that after all the sacrifices [he made] for the party in 2014, when it became glaring that he was going to win in Tamale, a single pronouncement from one individual that Fred Oware should be voted for destroyed everything and created an unrecoverable cost for him.
According to him, the proposal was very disheartening since it was the fourth time he [Ntim] was contesting, adding that he will go ahead and contest this time around.
“I am going to win and I will work with the President [Akufo-Addo] after winning, whether he will work with me or not, I don’t care; I will work with him”, he said.
Mr. Ntim noted that if care was not taken, he, together with the preferred choice, may all lose out on the position.
He accused Alhaji Short of being desperate for power even though he has done nothing for the party.
Mr. Steven Ntim said he will remain focused and formulate purposeful action plans that would make the NPP more attractive to all, in order to reverse the one-party-two-terms-government mantra in Ghana.
