Appoint women to high positions in political hierarchy – Asantehene appeals politicians

His Royal Majesty Otumfou Osei Tutu II, the Overload of the Ashanti Kingdom

His Royal Majesty Otumfou Osei Tutu II, the Overload of the Ashanti Kingdom, has urged Ghanaian politicians to appoint women to high positions in the political hierarchy.

The king said in politics, governance, and more, women continue to brave the odds to make their contributions count for the building of a democratic and progressive society.

Asantehene noted that women should play a significant role in the nation’s growth because the few who have had the opportunity have shown a strong sense of patriotism.

According to the Asantehene, the call “is necessary to allow women to fulfill their share of nation-building contributions”.

The 16th occupant of the Golden Stool made the remarks this during a durbar to honor women at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, on Monday, April 22, 2024.

The event, known as Queenmothers-Day and Food fair, was part of activities to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of Asantehene, Otumfou Osei Tutu II.

Queen mothers from the various Asanteman Kingdom exhibit the Asante cuisines at the Manhyia Palace, ranging from the renowned Fufu, to lesser-known and ancient delicacies like “Akau” and “Mampong at3ky3”.

“The challenges women have to surmount in achieving excellence is frustrating many, and it limits the development of their potentials, thus making the nation poorer in varied fields,” Asantehene disclosed.

He also urged relevant authorities to make it easier for women to rise to leadership roles so that the nation may accomplish its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and build a more inclusive and equitable Ghana for everyone.
