Afia Kobi Ampem Girls SHS takes bold step against sexual harassment

The Afia Kobi Ampem Girls SHS at Trabuom in the Ashanti Region has taken a bold step in educating its students on measures to guard against sexual harassment.

The school’s “Orange the World” program, held in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service, aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to protect themselves from potential sexual harassment.

The event, which was attended by students, teachers, political figures, high-ranking police officers, traditional authorities, and technocrats, was deemed a huge success.

Addressing the students, Headmistress Emelia Denutsui emphasized the importance of protecting young girls from sexual harassment.

She noted that education is key in empowering girls to protect themselves from potential sexual harassment from teachers and fellow students.

Hon. Kofi Amankwa-Manu, Member of Parliament for Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency, also addressed the gathering, urging students and attendees to say no to sexual harassment.

He commended the school for organizing the program, stating that it will help build the students for a good future.

The issue of sexual harassment in senior high schools is a pressing concern, with research showing that it has severe negative impacts on the academic and social life of female students.

The “Orange the World” program is a step in the right direction, and it is hoped that other schools will follow suit in educating their students on this critical issue.
