Dozens injured, 3 children in critical condition after gory crash on Kumasi-Accra Highway
Dozens of people have been injured, including three children who sustained severe injuries, following a gory accident on the Kumasi-Accra Highway.
The accident occurred on on Monday afternoon, June 1, 2026.
The crash occurred at Yawkwei, a community near Konongo, when a trailer truck traveling from Accra to Kumasi collided head-on with a Ford Transit commercial vehicle.
Eyewitness Mr. Atuahene, speaking to Dr. Cash on OTEC FM’s afternoon political show Dwabrem, said speed and wrongful overtaking caused the accident.
“Both vehicles were on top speed on the highway. The trailer truck attempted a wrongful overtaking and clashed head-on with the Ford Transit. It was a terrible scene,” he recounted.
According to Mr. Atuahene, the impact left many passengers trapped and injured.
“Dozens of people were injured in the crash. Among them were three children who sustained severe injuries. We rushed them to the hospital for medical attention,”he added.
As of the time of filing this report, the injured victims had been sent to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Police were yet to arrive at the scene.
Drivers have been urged to exercise caution and avoid wrongful overtaking on the busy highway.
