Asokore Mampong Assembly demolishes suspected criminal hideout at Sabon Zongo

The Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Municipal Security Council, has carried out demolition exercise at the Kan-Bola, affecting thousands of occupants
Kan-Bola is a slum area at Sabon Zongo in the Municipality that has existed over decades
The demolition exercise follows an earlier warning to the occupants issued about a week ago to evacuate the place ahead of the exercise
The is suspected to stern from recent murder incidents that occurred in the area, resulting in the deat of two young men
Speaking to OTEC News Reporter Bismark Appiah Kubi Papilo in an interview during the operation, the Co-ordinating Director for the Assembly, Isaac Kwame Ellimah noted the illegal structures have become a threat to the security of the Municipality due to criminal activities leading to the death of some citizens
When asked whether the occupants would not return after the exercise, Mr Ellimah indicated that the Assembly have met with shared owners of the area to develop land after the demolition to ensure no return of the affected occupants
He stressed that the Assembly may take over the area if the key stakeholders of the area, including OTEC FM, Melcom and Zuria, fail to develop it.
“We’ve asked the key stakeholders of the land to develop the area soon after the demolition exercise. If they fail to develop it, we will use the place as packing for vehicles arrested for unauthorized packing within the Assembly, he stated.”
