New post-results SHS selection aims to reduce congestion at placement centers – Free SHS Secretariat

The Ashanti Regional Director for the Free SHS Secretariat, Francisca Yeboah, says the decision to allow students to select schools after seeing their results was to reduce congestion at placement centers.

According to her, the new policy will give students time to select and get their preferred schools without necessarily trooping to placement centers in their numbers.

She said this in an interview with OTEC News’ Dr. Cash on the Afternoon Political show Dwabrem on Monday.

“So we deliberately waited for the results to come before the selection, to help students get the schools based on their strengths and the demands from various schools to get a smooth process,” she explained.

Mrs. Yeboah added that the system will also help students make realistic choices.

“So clearly a student with aggregate 25 will not select a Category A school but will rather select a school that will automatically accept and enroll him or her,”she noted.

She emphasized that this process will reduce the burden on students and parents, and halt the problem of hundreds of them congesting at placement centers.

The Free SHS Secretariat is urging parents and candidates to seek guidance from teachers to make informed choices during the selection period.
