No STC passenger died in Birimso crash; all 31 accounted for – Deputy MD

The State Transport Company (STC) has clarified that none of the passengers aboard its bus involved in the fatal crash at Birimso Bridge on the N6 Highway near Bonsu Junction in the Eastern Region died, although some sustained minor injuries.

The clarification follows the circulation of a viral video in which a man, claiming to be an STC driver, alleged that only 10 passengers survived the accident.

The multi-vehicle accident, which involved an STC bus, a fuel tanker, a Mitsubishi pick-up and a Kia Sorento, claimed three lives. However, STC says none of the fatalities involved passengers on its bus.

Speaking to Newsmen on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 the Deputy Managing Director in charge of Finance and Administration, Nuru Hamidan, said all passengers on board the STC bus had been accounted for, although some sustained minor injuries and were treated at the hospital.News explainers

“I am happy to say that none of the STC passengers died. All of them were safe, although some sustained bruises and were taken to the hospital. We dispatched two buses to transport passengers who wished to continue their journey to Kumasi after they had been discharged. 31 passengers boarded the buses, and we have accounted for all 31 passengers,” he said.

He reiterated the company’s commitment to maintaining the highest operational and safety standards while urging the public to disregard unverified information surrounding the accident.
