Police arrest six suspected members of armed robbery syndicate in Ashanti Region
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested six suspected members of an organized armed robbery syndicate terrorizing parts of the Kumasi Metropolis.
Briefing the media on Monday, August 31, 2026, at the M.A Alhassan Conference Room, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander said the arrests were made by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit in August following intelligence-led operations.
The suspects are Philip Nyarko alias “Kawawa” 23, Hadi Samed alias “Toronto” 20, Issahaku Musah alias “Isak” 23, Suraj Mohammed alias “Baba Nde” 27, Hadi Abdul Majeed alias “Panie” 23, and Foster Owusu Afriyie alias “Joe Fraizer” 45.
According to the Commander, “Preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to a number of reported street robbery incidents at Kaase, Ahinsan Estate, Santasi New Site, Bronikrom, Kwadaso Estate and other locations within the Region.”
He said exhibits including a Kawasaki motorbike, two machetes, an iPhone 13 and five keypad phones were retrieved from the residence of suspect Kawawa.
The Police also arrested Augustine Agyemang Duah at Adum P.Z for allegedly assisting the syndicate to unlock stolen phones, and Fatawo Alhassan alias “2Pac” for allegedly buying stolen phones, with 33 assorted mobile phones recovered from Foster Owusu Afriyie.
The Commander disclosed that three of the suspects were previously arrested in December 2025 for robbery, arraigned before the Asokwa Circuit Court 1 and granted bail, but allegedly resumed criminal activities.
He dadded that six other accomplices including one Abdul Shattar are currently at large and appealed to the public to volunteer information without confronting suspects.
