Amansie South District: 8 confirmed dead after mining pit collapse at Manso Kaniago

Eight people have been confirmed dead  after a mining pit collapsed on them at Manso Kaniago in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region.

The deceased, all males, reportedly died after the pit caved in on them on Tuesday, September 2, 2026, around 10:00 p.m.

The District Chief Executive for the area, Hon. Benjamin Marfo, in an interview with OTEC News Reporter, Kwame Agyenim Boateng, said all eight bodies have been retrieved from the pit.

“We are currently at the site with NADMO and other security officials and eight people have been retrieved so far, all dead,” he said.

“We have brought in excavators and we are still searching for the one who is still missing.”

He noted that the pit was an abandoned old pit where the victims had gone ostensibly to mine for gold, but they were unlucky.
