IGP engages Okada riders, pushes compliance with road safety regulations
Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has engaged the leadership of the Okada Riders Association of Ghana (ORAG) as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and improve compliance with road safety regulations.
The meeting, held on Wednesday, September 16, brought together the IGP, members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) and representatives of the association.
Discussions focused on concerns affecting commercial motorbike riders, as well as measures to improve their operations and promote safer use of the country’s roads.
Mr Yohuno urged Okada riders to strictly adhere to road traffic regulations and undergo appropriate training to enhance their riding skills and safety.
He also tasked the association with intensifying education among its members on responsible road use, saying such efforts could contribute to reducing road crashes.
The IGP further directed ORAG to ensure that all riders are properly identified and registered and comply with the necessary licensing and motorbike registration requirements.
According to the Police Administration, enforcing these measures will promote accountability among commercial motorbike riders and complement efforts to improve road safety.
The President of ORAG, Michael Kofi Owusu, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to working closely with the Ghana Police Service to improve the operations of its members.
He said ORAG would support initiatives aimed at promoting road safety while collaborating with the police to help combat crime.
Mr Yohuno assured the riders that the Police Administration would maintain regular engagements with the association to address their concerns and deepen cooperation between the police and commercial motorbike riders.
