IGP: Police arrest robbery gang leader, his mother and 14-year-old lookout for Kumasi-Accra Highway robbery
The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has disclosed that police have arrested an armed robbery gang leader, his mother, and a 14-year-old juvenile who served as a lookout during a highway robbery on the Kumasi-Accra Highway.
The suspects are gang leader Obotan, the biological mother of the leader who hid the weapons used for the operation, Issaka Napson, supplier of the weapons Issaka Majid, and Majod Husefa, all members of the gang.
The IGP, speaking at a press conference on Monday, noted that the gang on August 18, 2026, conducted a highway robbery on the Anyinasu-Sekyere stretch of the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
“A search conducted at the residence of the suspect led to the recovery of a pump-action gun, double-barrel gun, three single-barrel guns, two AA cartridges, a locally manufactured pistol, three cutlasses, two pairs of handcuffs, and pepper spray,” he said.
He noted that all suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
