Kumasi: 5-month-old baby stolen at Asafo Market, family cries for help
An unknown woman has reportedly stolen a five-month-old baby boy at Asafo Market in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region.
The suspect, believed to be in her late 30s, has reportedly fled with the baby, leaving the parents in despair.
The five-month-old baby, Akwasi Banahene, was stolen from the Cape Coast Bus Terminal at the market on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
Speaking to OTEC News reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng, the uncle of the missing child, Mr. Osei Kuffour, disclosed that the mother had left the sleeping baby in front of their store while working.
He noted that the suspect, a woman believed to be 37 to 40 years old, had been sitting just at the corner of the store but was also gone the moment they found out the baby was missing.
“The mother is a food vendor and was preparing food around 5 a.m. in the morning. The child was sleeping and so she left him in front of the store just at the very place she was working,” he said.
“The suspect is a woman we don’t know in the area, she was sitting close to the store. The mother had turned from the store to get something but returned to see both the baby and the woman gone,” Mr. Kuffour added.
he family has since reported the incident to the police, calling on the public for support to locate the baby.
