Kumasi: Roadside trader killed in tragic accident at Brewery Traffic Light in Asokwa
A tragic accident at the Brewery Traffic Light in the Asokwa Constituency in Kumasi has claimed the life of a roadside trader identified as Janet.
The incident occurred on Monday, September 21, 2026, after a forklift reportedly lost its brakes and veered towards traders at the traffic light.
According to eyewitness Ama Sefa who spoke to OTEC news Reporter Kwame Agyenim said , she and Janet, who sells pawpaw at the traffic light, were selling along the main road while the traffic light was red.
She said when the light turned green, they moved away from the road and waited for the traffic to stop again.
It was at that point, she said, that the forklift reportedly lost its brakes and moved in their direction.
Ama Sefa said she managed to escape, but Janet was trapped, hit and dragged by the forklift and died at the scene.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses at the scene have called on authorities to regulate the activities of traders and heavy-duty vehicles around the traffic light to prevent such occurrences in the future.
