Kumasi set to welcome Asantehene home in grand style on September 3

The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Manhyia Palace, Asanteman Council and Kumasi Traditional Council have announced elaborate arrangements to welcome His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, back to Kumasi on Thursday, September 3, 2026, following his important engagements in the United States.
During his visit to the United States, the Asantehene delivered a lecture at Howard University in Washington, D.C., on governance, cultural preservation, traditional leadership and the enduring connections between Ghana and the global African diaspora.
He also observed the Akwasidae Festival and engaged with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, among other activities.
KMA in a press release on Tuesday said Upon his arrival at Prempeh I International Airport, Otumfuo will receive a ceremonial welcome from the security services, including a parade and ceremonial salute.
He will then proceed through major streets of Kumasi, passing through Krofrom, Suame Roundabout, Abrepo Junction, Bantama, Komfo Anokye, Otumfuo Roundabout at Kejetia, before continuing through the Central Police Station, Military Museum, KMA, Asafo Interchange, Amakom, WAEC and Akwatia Line to Manhyia Palace.
At the Manhyia Palace, customary rites will be performed to mark and give thanks for the Asantehene’s safe return home.
The city authorities are therefore calling on residents, traditional leaders, institutions and the people of Asanteman to come together and give Otumfuo Osei Tutu II a warm and befitting welcome. Schoolchildren are also expected to line the principal routes with miniature Asanteman flags as part of the welcome procession.
