President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of the $1.3 billion Sentuo Airport Garden City Project, a major mixed-use development expected to add premium residential, hospitality, commercial and leisure facilities to Accra.
The project will comprise approximately 582 premium apartments, a 600-room hotel, a conference facility with a capacity of 2,500 people, healthcare facilities and a modern shopping mall.
It will also feature landscaped gardens, 503 parking bays within a four-storey apartment building, as well as other supporting commercial and leisure amenities.
At the sod-cutting ceremony on Tuesday September 15, President Mahama called for Ghanaian engineers, architects, artisans, technicians, suppliers and other local businesses to be given meaningful opportunities to participate in the construction of the project.
He said greater involvement of local professionals and businesses would help ensure that the investment generates wider economic opportunities for Ghanaians beyond the development itself.
President Mahama also expressed the hope that the expansion of conference infrastructure in Accra would enable Ghana to host major international events, including conferences organised by the United Nations.
He said the development of facilities capable of hosting such high-profile events would further strengthen Accra’s position as a destination for international conferences and business activities.
