President John Dramani Mahama has praised the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) for its improved financial performance but urged the institution to strengthen its core operations to ensure the gains are sustained.
According to President Mahama, GoldBod’s net profit rose significantly to about GH¢896 million, compared with GH¢178.5 million recorded in 2024.
He made the remarks at the 2026 Governing Boards and CEOs’ Conference organised by the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA).
President Mahama singled out GoldBod as one of the state-owned enterprises highlighted in SIGA’s entity spotlight, describing its financial performance as deserving of recognition.
He attributed the improvement to efforts to establish transparent and accountable systems for managing Ghana’s gold trade in a manner that serves the national interest.
“This performance reflects the strategic importance of building transparent, accountable and nationally beneficial structures around Ghana’s gold trade,” he said.
While commending the institution for the results, the President cautioned management not to become overly reliant on favourable market conditions or movements in the exchange rate.
“These results deserve commendation but they must, however, be sustained through stronger core operations and cannot depend indefinitely on just a better business environment and the exchange rate movements,” he stressed.
He urged GoldBod to consolidate the progress made by improving its operational foundations and ensuring that its financial performance remains sustainable over the long term.
