Two arrested over kidnapping, murder of Senegalese goalkeeper
The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects over the kidnapping and murder of Senegalese goalkeeper Cheikh Touré in Kumasi in October 2025.
The suspects, 32-year-old Nigerien national Salifu Walid and 24-year-old Burkinabe Aziz Wadrago Mane, were arrested on September 20, 2026, at a hideout in Banpanase near Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region.
Police investigations indicate that the two are part of a four-member group that allegedly posed as football scouts and used online networks to lure victims into Ghana.
According to the Police, the group lured Touré into Ghana as part of an alleged scheme to defraud him before kidnapping and killing him.
The men later deposited his body at the Ebenezer Mortuary at Tafo and absconded.
The case had earlier raised concerns in Senegal, with the country’s Foreign Affairs Ministry saying preliminary investigations indicated that Touré may have been a victim of a fraud and extortion network. Senegalese authorities subsequently asked Ghana to conduct a thorough investigation into his death.
The Police said the two suspects admitted their involvement during interrogation and provided information on their alleged roles in luring Touré into Ghana.
Two other suspects, Noukoubri Arzouma Sylviain, also known as Prince Pierre, and Barry, are wanted by the Police.
Investigators believe the two played key roles in the group’s activities and are intensifying efforts to arrest them.
Walid and Mane remain in Police custody and will be processed for court.
