Kejetia phase 2: KMA sets october for work resumption, targets 2027 completion

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Engineer(KMA) says work on the Kejetia Phase 2 project is expected to resume in October 2026, following discussions with the contractor and expecting completion 2027.

Engineer George Kwame Nyame, who spoke to OTEC News reporter Anthoniette Ama Nyame, said the project remains important to both the government and the KMA, and efforts are being made to ensure its completion.

According to him, the contractor stopped work due to some challenges, but the KMA has engaged the contractor and work is expected to resume in October.

He said the project could be completed by the middle of 2027 or, at the latest, by the end of 2027.

Mr. Nyame said one of the major challenges at the beginning of the project was the relocation of traders.

He explained that it took almost a year for the traders to move out of the area before construction could begin.

He also identified funding as another challenge that affected the project and led to a pause in construction.

He said, once the Phase 2 project is completed, the KMA plans to begin work on the Kejetia Phase 3 project.

On the allocation of stores at Phase 2, Engineer  said people who want to acquire the stores will have to make full payment.

He explained that this will be different from Phase 1, where some people were allowed to take stores before making full payment.

According to him, some occupants of Phase 1 have still not completed their payments after almost five years.

He therefore said prospective buyers of Phase two stores should be prepared to pay the full market value.

He added that money generated from the Phase 2 stores will be used to support the construction of the Phase 3 project.
