NPP parliamentary aspirants to pay GH¢5,000 to declare interest

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will open its online portal from November 1 to 10, 2026, for members seeking to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections to declare their interest at a fee of GH¢5,000.

The announcement was made by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, during a press briefing on Thursday, October 29, 2026.

Mr Kodua Frimpong said the party had introduced a new process for selecting its parliamentary candidates for the 2028 general elections, beginning with a formal declaration of interest by prospective aspirants through the party’s online portal.

Under the arrangement, interested members will be required to access the portal, select their preferred constituency and submit an application accompanied by a GH¢5,000 fee.
According to the General Secretary, the initiative is intended to ensure that prospective parliamentary candidates undergo rigorous training and capacity-building exercises to prepare them for the responsibilities expected of NPP parliamentary candidates.

“This time around, the party has decided to come out with a new process in selecting our parliamentary candidates. In kick-starting our parliamentary selection processes, the party has introduced what we refer to as expressing or declaration of interest or intent by prospective parliamentary aspirants.

“What this simply means is that the party will, from 1st November to 10th November, open our portal for any interested person who wants to be nominated to stand on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party to declare his or her interest through our portal.

“The party is just asking you to declare your intention by going to our portal to apply. After you’ve made the application, it comes with a fee of GH¢5,000,” he said.

Mr Kodua Frimpong further stressed that the party’s directive suspending campaign activities by prospective parliamentary aspirants, their agents and supporters remained in force.

He explained that the declaration-of-interest process did not constitute the formal opening of nominations but marked the first step towards that stage of the parliamentary candidate selection process.

“We have still not opened nominations, and we have still not asked people to go around to campaign. This is just a first step towards the process of opening nominations. The party is just asking you to declare your intention by going to our portal to apply,” he said.
