The Western Regional Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed its support for proposed amendments to the party’s constitution.
In a joint communiqué issued on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, the Regional Secretariat said the decision followed extensive deliberations, stakeholder consultations and consideration of the legal and constitutional issues surrounding the proposed changes.
The statement said the proposed amendments, presented by the party’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, provide an opportunity to strengthen the NPP’s internal structures, improve institutional effectiveness and safeguard the principles and values upon which the party was founded.
Amendments to strengthen party structures
According to the Western Regional Executive Committee, the party’s constitution remains the fundamental framework guiding its organisation, administration and political activities.
It said as the NPP continues to evolve, identified gaps, ambiguities and emerging institutional challenges must be addressed through appropriate constitutional processes.
“The proposed amendments provide an important opportunity to strengthen the Party’s internal structures, improve institutional effectiveness and safeguard the principles and values upon which the Party was founded,” the communiqué stated.
The committee further described the proposed changes as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s governance structures, deepen internal democracy, promote unity and enhance organisational effectiveness.
Western NPP calls for support
The Western Regional Executive Committee said it remained committed to the unity, progress and democratic traditions of the NPP.
It therefore called on members of the party to support the proposals, describing them as well-considered measures intended to advance the collective interests of the party.
“We remain committed to the unity, progress and enduring democratic traditions of our great Party, and call on all like-minded members to support these well-considered proposals in the collective interest of the Party,” the statement said.
The communiqué was signed by the Western Regional Secretary, Hon. Kwasi Bonzoh.
The NPP is scheduled to consider proposed constitutional amendments at its National Delegates Congress in Kumasi before the election of national officers. Recent reports indicate that the amendments are expected to cover several aspects of the party’s organisational and leadership structures.
