Victims of Obuasi SHTS scandal withdraw after names published- Gender Minister

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Naa Momo Lartey, has revealed that some victims of the alleged Obuasi Senior High Technical School sex scandal and their families have withdrawn from testifying against the accused headmaster.
According to the Minister, the victims felt threatened after they claimed to have seen their names broadcast and published on major media platforms.
She said this development has caused most of the victims and their families to withdraw their cooperation in the case.
“So far a number of children willing to engage in the investigation process have withdrawn after hearing their full names on air,” she stated.
The Minister explained that the situation is now forcing the students not to open up about what happened to them.
“Their families are also not happy with the development and so we are calling on the media to support us in this cause,” she added.
Hon. Naa Momo Lartey made these remarks when she visited the school on Monday, October 26, 2026.
Her visit followed the reopening of the school after it was closed for three months following the alleged scandal.
The Minister had earlier assured students, parents and teachers of adequate security and a safe learning environment at the facility.
She appealed to the media and the general public to prioritize the protection and privacy of the victims to allow the investigation to proceed smoothly.
