One injured, two arrested, as tricycle operators clash with students at Atwima Kwanwoma SHS

One person has been reported injured following a clash between tricycle operators from the community and students of Atwima Kwanwoma Senior High School at Trede in the Atwima Kwanwoma Municipality during the school’s entertainment week celebration.
Headmaster Blames Lack Of Fence Wall
The Headmaster of the school, Mr. Clement Asambire, confirming the incident to OTEC News , said this is not the first time such an incident has happened in the school.
He attributed the recurring clashes to the lack of a fence wall around the school to beef up security.
He said the school can now boast of only three security guards for both day and night, a situation which has allowed the tricycle operators to use different routes to enter the school without going through the main entrance to cause trouble.
“The school can now boast of only three security guards for both day and night, a situation which has allowed the tricycle operators to use different routes to enter the school without going through the main entrance,” Mr. Asambire said.
Encroachers Taking Over School Lands
Mr. Asambire also complained about the lack of a fence wall, which he said is giving room for encroachers to continue taking over the school’s lands.
He said the school is now lacking adequate classrooms and dormitories, and the lands available to attract the attention of the GETFund Secretariat, Municipal Assembly, MPs’ Common Fund, PTA, Old Students and NGOs to come to their aid with infrastructure are being taken over.
He said some of the classrooms have been converted into girls’ dormitories, coupled with temporary classrooms with benches being used as chairs, a situation fighting against teaching and learning.
Police Arrest Two, Plan Stakeholder Engagement
Chief Superintendent Vincent Appiah, Trede District Police Commander, in his response, confirmed the incident, saying two tricycle operators have been arrested pending investigation.
He announced plans to hold a stakeholders’ engagement between the school authorities, traditional authorities, tricycle operators and the police administration to find lasting solutions to the situation.
“We will hold a stakeholders’ engagement between the school authorities, traditional authorities, tricycle operators and the police administration to find lasting solutions to the situation,” Chief Superintendent Appiah stated.
