The third day of the parliamentary select committee on healths’ tour to the Ashanti region has led the team to the Ejisu government Hospital where all ambulances under the Ghana ambulance service at the facility are wrecked and inactive.
The committee started their monitoring tour last Tuesday when they visited Okomfo Anokye teaching hospital, South hospital which is now the regional hospital for Ashanti, the regional health directorate and today at the Ejisu Juaben municipal.
The district health director, Mrs Josephine Ahorso addressing the committee said that the ambulance service is not operational and they sometimes make distress calls to the komfo Anokye teaching hospital for assistance when referring emergency cases to the Teaching hospital.
”The national ambulance service sometimes fall on us for funds to repair their broken down ambulances and we would be glad if the committee could address these challenges in Parliament.”
She revealed that hospital staff sometimes out of sacrifice use their private vehicles to transport patients to and from the various health facilities in the district even though they no more get car maintenance allowance from government.
Mrs. Ahorso disclosed that critical among their challenges is inadequate doctors in the district to treat patients and the lack of accommodation for the staff of the hospital.
The chairman of the committee, Hon. Dr. Kwabena Twum Niama assured the hospital that they will sit and address their challenges with the hope that everything will go down well to improve the health facilities in the district.
