Asantehene’s 25th anniversary: Bantamahene joins Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation to plant over 25000 trees
The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation with support from the chief of Bantama Baffour Owusu Amakwatia VI have planted over 25000 trees to mark the 25th anniversary celebration of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The foundation together with the renowned chief on Friday June 7, 2024 joined hands with some basic schools at Bantama to plant the trees.
Speaking to OTEC News Reporter Juliet Tetteh at the sidelines of the event, the Chief of Bantama, Baffour Owusu Amakwatia VI called on the public to actively get involved in the planting of trees to reverse the adverse effects of climate change.
“This initiative is very crucial to help Ghana restore and conserve its degraded lands and forests, hence the need for all to get involved”.
For her part, the Head of stakeholders Relations for the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, Madam Abigail Owusu, stressed the foundation’s commitment to supporting the nation’s programs geared towards re-afforestation particularly in the Ashanti Region.
She revealed that, the foundation as part activities to mark the 25th anniversary of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II planned to plant 25000 seedlings.
“The foundation together with Divisional heads will go beyond the Green Ghana Day and plant more trees”.
“We are indeed grateful to all our partners for always supporting us to roll out major interventions for the vulnerable in the country”.
She however noted that, one of the thematic areas the foundation has been working on was water and Sanitation, adding that, planting more trees, saving the environment was crucial to the foundation achieving their aim.
