2025 AFCONQ: It is unfortunate for Ghana – Kwesi Appiah speaks after Sudan’s 2-0 win

Kwesi Appiah described Ghana’s loss in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers as unfortunate.

His remarks follow after Black Stars’ 2-0 defeat to Sudan on Tuesday at the Martyrs of February Stadium in the return leg, with the first leg ending in a goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Sudan secured their victory with goals from Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud and Mohammed Abdelrahman, putting the Falcons ahead and leaving Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the tournament in Morocco in jeopardy.

“It’s unfortunate for Ghana. Ghana has a good team but it’s unfortunate that only one of us can go through,” Sudan’s head coach, Kwesi Appiah said.

“I’m happy we’ve been able to put a smile on Sudanese faces,” he added.

With the win, Sudan now has seven points in Group F, while Ghana remains with just two points, making their qualification prospects significantly more difficult.

Ghana will end its qualifying campaign with a home game against Niger, followed by their final match away against Angola.
