KATH cuts sod for construction of ultramodern pharmacy complex to boost healthcare delivery

The Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in the Ashanti Region has embarked on an ambitious project to construct a state-of-the-art Pharmacy Complex valued at 43 million cedis.

This four-story facility aims to enhance service delivery in the hospital’s healthcare system.

The sod-cutting ceremony, held on November 21, 2024, brought together key stakeholders in the health sector.

Professor Addae Mensah, CEO of KATH, emphasized that this project will address the long-standing issue of inadequate space for pharmaceutical management.

According to Prof. Mensah, the project will provide a comprehensive pharmaceutical facility, including a warehouse, production unit, packing and raw materials room, loading and offloading base, and changing or quarantine rooms.

This project is self-funded through KATH’s internally generated funds, made possible by the hospital’s remarkable turnaround in pharmaceutical services.

Prof. Mensah praised the past and present hospital board for implementing policies that revitalized operations and enabled this investment.

The Pharmacy Complex is expected to be completed in three phases.

Upon completion, it will significantly enhance KATH’s capacity to provide quality healthcare services, solidifying its position as a major referral hospital in Ghana.

Prof. Mensah assured that the project will be completed to help the hospital achieve its mission of providing excellent patient care.
