Chirapatre Traditional  Council Enstools Lecturer As Nkosuohene

Architect Dr. David Nyame Tawiah, a lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and a Deputy Managing Director at DBS Industries Limited has been enstooled as the Nkosuohene of the Chirapatre Traditional Area.

At a largely traditional ceremony with massive participation of Chiefs, civil and public servants as well as people from academia, Dr Nyame Tawiah swore the oath of allegiance and office to the Chief of Chirapatre at the latter’s palace.

With the stool name of Nana Kwabena Ankomah Nyame, the former visual arts student at Kumasi High School,  graduate of KNUST and now lecturer performed mandatory rites at a colorful durbar on Wednesday.

Charge:

Earlier, the Chief of Chirapatre, Nana Offe Kusi Wiredu II, urged the new Nkosuohene to administer his office with truthfulness and fairness.

He also asked him to be firm and straightforward with his subjects as well as the people of Chirapatre.

The Chirapatre Chief disclosed that he was moved by the philanthropic work of Dr Nyame Tawiah and having engaged him in conversations he was convinced the KNUST lecturer would be a fitting Nkosuohene for his Traditional Area.

Priorities:

Speaking to the media after his enstoolment, Nana Kwabena Ankomah Nyame pledged his commitment to lead a development agenda for Chirapatre.

He noted that immediately his priorities would be on education, adding that he plans on setting up a scholarship scheme to support brilliant but needy students in the Chirapatre and help to reconstruct many dilapidated school infrastructure in the community.

Other areas such as health, hygiene and sports, the Nkosuohene said would also be pursued including the creation of several avenues for the people to get training to become self employed or learn some form of artisanal skill.

“My number one priority after accepting this huge honour done me by the Chiefs and people of Chirapatre is to launch an educational fund to ensure every child in Chirapatre gets the opportunity to go to school to the highest level and to rise to become medical doctors, architects as well as leaders in other professions”, the Nkosuohene stated.

Dignitaries:

Present at the ceremony were the former Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah as well as Dr. Daniel Boateng, Managing Director at DBS Industries and Precise FM.

Headmaster and staff of Kumasi High School as well as old students of both Kumasi High School (Mmerante3) and KNUST were also at the event to show support to the calm mannered Dr Nyame Tawiah.

Staff and workers of De-Vita School, a private basic school owned by the new Nkosuohene were present to show support as well as many friends and acquaintances.
