A/R: Police clamp down on illegal mining in Mankranso district
The Mankranso District Police Command, in collaboration with the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly, has embarked on a special joint anti-galamsey operation to crack down on illegal mining activities in the Mpasaaso and Achiase areas.
During the operation on June 2, 2025, several illegal miners fled the scene upon sighting the security team, abandoning their equipment.
A search of the mining sites led to the seizure of one CAL 9mm pistol, four pump-action guns, live ammunition, and five excavators.
The impounded excavators are being held at the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly premises, while the firearms and ammunition are being kept at the Mankranso District Police Command for further investigation.
The Regional Police Command in in a press release on Wednesday June 4,2025 commended the officers and stakeholders involved in the successful operation.
The release signed by heqd of Public Affairs Unit, ASP Godwin Ahianyo and copied to OTEC News Desk, urged the public to support law enforcement by providing credible information to aid in the arrest and prosecution of those involved in illegal mining activities.
