Bank of Ghana reverses termination of 100 employees

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has reversed the termination of about one hundred staff members whose appointments were revoked about a week ago. Most of the affected employees were engaged by the bank in 2024.

Asaase News sources familiar with the latest decision of the management of the BoG indicated that the bank today, 26 June 2025, concluded a meeting with the affected staff, and they are all expected to resume work from Monday, 30 June 2025.

The Bank of Ghana terminated the appointments of more than 100 staff members who were employed in 2024 under the previous administration of Nana Akufo-Addo. The affected staff received official notices of dismissal on Thursday, 19 June 2025

A  copy of the letters sighted by Asaase News, signed by Mrs Lucy Sasu, Head of the Human Resource and Capacity Development Department, cited the bank’s employment terms regarding probation as the basis for the action.

“In accordance with the terms of your contract of employment, a satisfactory six (6) month probationary period was to be completed. Management regrets to inform you that your appointment cannot be confirmed,” the termination notice stated.

The letters further indicated that the employees’ contracts would officially end on Monday, 23 June 2025, with one month’s salary in lieu of notice to be provided.

Staff were instructed to return all bank property to the Human Resource Department by that date.

The move forms part of what appears to be a broader wave of dismissals within state institutions since the change in government in January 2025.
