A/R: NDC Chairman Clashes with Assembly Members Over Kwadaso Onion Market

The Chairman for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Kwadaso Constituency of the Ashanti Region, Issah Morrow, has reportedly clashed with Assembly Members after they moved to stop onion traders from illegally occupying a place belonging to the Assembly.
The NDC Chairman observed that the Assembly took the land from the onion traders without reason, hence their decision to forcefully occupy the place again.
The Kwadaso Municipality Assembly in 2024 relocated the onion traders from the land in question and moved them to Atwima Takyiman.
The activities of onion traders, according to the Assembly, caused preventable accidents, unbearable traffic at the entrance of the Assembly, and massive filth.
However, following a change of government, the traders have moved back to the old place with claims that the Assembly sacked them because they were NDC members.
Assembly Members at the Municipality on Monday, July 21, 2025, visited the area to engage the traders but were stopped by the NDC Chairman.
Addressing the media, the Presiding Member for Kwadaso Municipal Assembly, Hon. Ernest Frimpong, described the move by onion traders as illegal.
He noted that the traders are using the office of the Interior Minister to intimidate security officers in the area, preventing them from enforcing the law.
He has therefore called on authorities and security agencies in the Municipality to halt development of the market since it was yet to be approved by the Assembly.
