A/R: GWCL Announces Temporary Shutdown of Barekese Water Treatment Plant affecting dozens of communities

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has announced a temporary shutdown of the Barekese Water Treatment Plant (WTP) on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025, from 9 AM to 5 PM.

GWCL in a press release on Monday July 21,2025 said the shutdown is to allow the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to conduct maintenance on the power lines.

The affected areas include Barekese Headworks, Kronum Cement, Heman Amoama Nketia, Asuofua, CONSAR Quarry, Adankyame, Adugaina, Naachia Quarry, Barekese town, Asira, Offinso, Namong, Kayera, Tutuase, Nsubtam, Kyerekrorh, Boamang, Tetrem, Habitat, Ahenkro, Kwamans, Kodie, Akrofrom, Aduman, Aduamoah, Denase, Pampatia, KCG Company, and surrounding areas.

According to the GWCL, operations at the Barekese WTP will resume as soon as power is restored.

The company regrets the inconvenience this will cause and assures customers that the shutdown is necessary to allow ECG to undertake planned maintenance works to improve service delivery.

Please be informed that Barekese Water Treatment Plant (WTP) will be shut down on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025, from 9 AM to 5 PM to allow the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to conduct maintenance on the power lines.

Operations at Barekese WTP will resume as soon as power is restored.
