Four Dead, 14 Injured in Gory Accident at Asukawkaw Market

A devastating accident has occurred at the Asukawkaw market in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region, resulting in four deaths and 14 serious injuries.

The incident happened when a fuel tanker ran into a crowd of market women and children on Thursday.

According to the Assembly Member for the Asukawkaw Electoral Area, Mark Oduro, the victims included three women and a one-year-old girl who were conducting their daily business when the tanker driver lost control and crashed into them.

“It is a very sad day for our community. The victims were market women going about their normal activities when the tanker hit them. We have lost three women and a girl believed to be about one year old. Fourteen others have sustained various injuries,” Mr. Oduro said in an interview with OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng.
The driver of the tanker has been arrested by the Katanga District Police to assist with investigations into the cause of the accident.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the Worawora Government Hospital morgue, while the injured are receiving treatment at nearby health facilities.
