Konongo : Gold dealer gunned down, assailants flee with cash and gold
A 28-year-old gold buyer, identified as Awal, has been brutally murdered by four armed men at Konongo in the Ashanti Region.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, around 8:00 pm, when the victim returned home from work.
According to the Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Samuel Baiden, the assailants attacked Awal at his home, shooting him on the spot and making away with some gold bars.
Speaking to OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim, the Assembly Member said residents were initially too afraid to approach the scene due to the gunshots, but after the robbers fled, they discovered the victim in a pool of blood.
The police arrived at the scene, but unfortunately, Awal was pronounced dead.
The body has been conveyed to the morgue, and investigations into the matter are underway.
Hon. Baiden expressed shock over the incident, highlighting the need for increased security measures to protect residents and traders in the area.
The police are working to apprehend the suspects and recover the stolen gold bars.
