Asanko Gold Impasse: Lands minister urges calm; assures speedy resolution

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has assured stakeholders of the government’s commitment to swiftly resolving the ongoing conflict between Asanko Gold Ghana Limited and the surrounding local communities.

The Minister’s visit and comments come in the wake of a confrontation between military personnel and local community members on the company’s concession, which destroyed company property valued at over $33 million, and the tragic death of a resident.

Speaking to the leadership of Asanko Gold, Mr Armah-Kofi Buah emphasised the critical need for peaceful coexistence.

He stated that the government would take all necessary measures to address the underlying grievances, heal the rift between the company and the community, and ensure a lasting resolution.

As part of the visit, the Minister conducted a brief inspection of Asanko Gold’s mining operations.

He urged the company’s management to strictly adhere to prescribed mining regulations and to prioritise community engagement and development as core aspects of their operations.

He commiserated with the bereaved family and community members, assuring them of a thorough and transparent investigation.
