Daddy Lumba’s funeral hangs in balance as family misses Asantehene meeting

The final funeral rites of the late music icon Charles Kwadwo Fosu Daddy Lumba, scheduled for Saturday 13th December 2025, is currently in limbo.
The family, led by Abusua panin Kofi Owusu, visited the Manhyia Palace on Monday, December 8, 2025, to meet the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei II and brief him on the final arrangements, but they couldn’t see the king for unknown reasons.
Funeral customs in the Asante Kingdom require the Asantehene’s input for iconic figures like Daddy Lumba.
The family typically informs the king with drinks before proceeding with the funeral.
The missed meeting complicates whether the funeral will proceed as planned without the Asantehene’s approval.
A source close to the family says the Palace has given them another chance to meet the Asantehene on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
The meeting’s outcome will determine the funeral date.
Meanwhile, a lawsuit filed by the musician’s immediate family against the designated head of the wider family over secrecy, mismanagement, and hijacking the memorial rites is scheduled for court hearing on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
The plaintiffs claim they were excluded from critical decisions, including being informed of Daddy Lumba’s passing on July 26, 2025.
