One dead, 37 injured in gory accident on Accra-Kumasi Highway

A tragic accident at Mankrong on the Accra-Kumasi Highway has claimed one life and injuring 37 others.

The accident occured on Sunday January 11,2026 following a head-on collision between two cars.

 The collision involved a 40-seater Zhong Tong bus with Registration Number (AS 7022-21) and a Man Diesel truck with Registration Number (GW 3969-U), both traveling at the time of impact .

The Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer for the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) DOII Ignatius Kwamena Biadoo in an Interview with OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng said a rescue team, responded promptly upon receiving a distress call.

“The team arrived  at the scene at 7:07 a.m. after being dispatched at 6:59 a.m.”

“They extricated the deceased, assisted the injured, and restored traffic flow.”

The injured, comprising 21 males and 17 females, were taken to Suhum Government Hospital for treatment, while the truck occupants escaped unhurt “. He said.

Eyewitnesses reported the bus was allegedly speeding when it crashed into the truck, causing extensive damage to the bus’s front section and minor damage to the truck’s rear.

The GNFS crew concluded their operation at 8:57 a.m. and returned to base at 9:52 a.m., showcasing their commitment to rapid emergency response
