Old Tafo Municipal Assembly empowers persons with disabilities with essential items

The Old Tafo Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti region has distributed essential items to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the municipality.

The items included refrigerators, sewing machines, refrigerators, bags, footwear, clutch motors, and bales of clothes.

The items were handed over to the beneficiaries as part of the government’s initiative to support vulnerable groups.

Speaking at the ceremony on Friday, January 30, 2026, the Municipal Chief Executive, Abubakar Sadick, expressed gratitude to President John Mahama for his government’s commitment to the welfare of persons with disability.

“The support we have received from the government has been significant, enabling us to provide these items to our beneficiaries,” he said.

‎”We are giving you these sewing machines to start your own tailoring businesses, the refrigerators to help you sell cold drinks and other perishable goods, and the bags and sandals to help you start petty trading,” he explained.

“We urge you to use these items to work hard and support yourselves, because disability is not inability. You have the potential to contribute to the economy and support your families,” the MCE stated.

The Head of the Social Welfare Department at the assembly, Miss Anita Donkor, advised the PWDs to utilize the items to improve their livelihoods.

“Use them to generate income, support your families, and become self-reliant. If you use them wisely, you will be able to help others and contribute to the development of our community,” she emphasized.

The beneficiaries who were elated to receive the items expressed their gratitude to the government, seeking more of such in the future.

Agya Kwabena, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, promised to use the items as expected to improve their livelihoods.
