Ashanti Region: GWL shuts down Odaso Treatment Plant

The Management of Ghana Water Ltd. (GWL), Ashanti Region, has announced the temporary shutdown of the Odaso Water Treatment Plant due to power challenges.
The shutdown took effect on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., following a fault in a transformer at Sewhi Asarenso, which supplies electricity to the plant.
Engineers from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) are currently working to repair the transformer and restore power, allowing operations at the treatment facility to resume.
The GWL, in a statement dated Monday, February 16, said, “Engineers from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) are currently working to rectify the fault and restore power to enable the resumption of operations at the Odaso Treatment Plant.”
The disruption has affected water supply to several communities, including Bidieso, Nyameso, Brahabebome, Kokoteasua, Abompekrom, Boete, Akaporiso, Tutuka, Anyinam, and surrounding areas.
Management of GWL apologised for the inconvenience and assured residents that the water supply would be restored as soon as power is reinstated and the plant resumes operations.
