Father-in-law of Sammy Gyamfi murdered by armed robbers
The father-in-law of the chief executive officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD), Sammy Gyamfi, has died today, Wednesday 18 February 2026, after allegedly sustaining gunshot wounds on Friday (13 February 2026).
It is believed that Gyamfi’s father-in-law was shot by armed robbers. All necessary medical efforts were made to save his life but Mr Karikari did not survive.
The armed robbery incident is said to have occurred in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, where the victim lived.
The father of Irene Amankwaa Karikari, wife of Sammy Gyamfi, gave her hand in marriage to Sammy Gyamfi in December 2022. Very little is known publicly about the late father-in-law of Gyamfi.
Sammy Gyamfi, the then national communications officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), married Irene at a semi-private ceremony in Accra on 21 December 2022.
The ceremony was attended by close family relations and the very top leadership of the NDC, including the then former president and now sitting President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama.
The marriage, scheduled for late November 2022, was postponed until after the NDC’s national delegates’ congress, where the groom was seeking re-election as national communications officer.
