No further extension of eviction to be granted for traders around Baba Yara Stadium – KMA

Management of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has warned traders and business operators around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to evacuate voluntarily area to avoid damages

Public Relations Officer for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Henrietta Afia Konadu, confirmed this in an interview with OTEC News, stressing that no further extension will be granted.

The evacuation operation was initially scheduled to take place in February, was extended to April to allow traders time to relocate voluntarily

The evacuation, according to Mrs Aboagye, includes unauthorized structures, containers, food joints, shops, among other temperal structures around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to sanitize and improve the area

She reiterated that the planned evacuation and demolition of unauthorised structures around the stadium will proceed once the April 6, 2026 deadline expires.

Reacting to alleged Ghc 1,500 collection by the Assembly to stop the eviction?

Mrs. Henrietta Aboagye warned traders not to fall victim to a scam involving people allegedly collecting GH₵1,500 in the name of the Mayor, Richard Ofori Agyemang-Boadi to stop the planned evacuation exercise.

She described the claims as false and cautioned that neither the Mayor, nor the Assembly has authorised anyone to collect money to halt the operation.

According to her,

The extension to April 6 was granted after the Regional Minister Amakomhene and Dadiesoabahene intervened on behalf of affected traders, requesting additional time for them to secure alternative locations for their businesses.

She therefore urged traders to take advantage of the extension and ensure to relocate voluntarily before the new date.
