Minority slams govt over cocoa price cut, questions COCOBOD’s mismanagement

The Minority in Parliament is on a mission to hold the government accountable over the recent cocoa price cut.

 Hon Isaac Yaw Opoku, MP for Offinso South, says mismanagement has led to the price reduction, leaving farmers in dire straits.

He noted despite making 40 billion cedis in the 2025 cocoa year, government has failed to pat the farmers

“Why have you failed to pay cocoa farmers after clocking 40 billion cedis in 2025?” Hon Opoku questioned, highlighting the government’s shortcomings.

He said this when the Minority in Parliament toured cocoa farms in the Ashanti Region to engage the farmers  recent problems in the sector

The lead lead by The Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh, was joined by the MP for Asokwa, Petricia Appiagyei, MP for Atwima Nwabiagya North Frank Yeboah, MP for Atwima Mponua, Seth Osei Akoto, MP for Bosomefreho Hon Asafo Agyei-Ayeh among others.

Hon Opoku Addressing Farmers at Bosomefreho on Monday March 16, e026 also critical of the sack shortage and cocoa buyers’ refusal to purchase cocoa, further squeezing farmers.

The NPP MP attributes the price cut to poor forward sales, saying the government’s failure to sell cocoa forward has led to the reduction.

“NDC failure to sell cocoa forward, poor management,” he emphasized.

The Minority’s visit to cocoa farmers aims to highlight the government’s neglect and push for better prices.

 Farmers are demanding answers and relief. As Hon Opoku puts it, “The government must explain why they’re failing to pay us.”
