Atwima Mponua: Tricycle crash claims 23-year-old at Okyerekrom; Assemblyman raises alarm over misuse

A 23-year-old man, identified as Kingsley Kwaku Atta, has lost his life following a fatal accident involving an aboboyaa (tricycle) loaded with timber at Okyerekrom in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

The deceased was reportedly riding as a pillion passenger on the tricycle, which was carrying about 20 timber logs, when the accident occurred. The vehicle was said to be traveling from Bayerebon Number 5 to Antwi Adjei Nkwanta when it crashed.
The Assemblyman for the area, Alexander Akwasi Yeboah, explained that the incident happened after the rider lost control of the heavily loaded tricycle on a rough stretch of the road.
“A group of young men had loaded the tricycle with timber and were heading toward Antwi Adjei Nkwanta when the rider lost control upon reaching a bad portion of the road, leading to the crash,” he told journalists.
He added that the rider and another injured victim were rushed to the Nyinahin Government Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Mr. Yeboah expressed grave concern over the increasing number of such accidents in the area, attributing them to the unsafe use of tricycles.
“The misuse of aboboyaa is becoming alarming and poses a serious risk to lives. We continue to record preventable accidents because of overloading and reckless handling,” he warned.
He further urged young people in the district to exercise caution and adhere to safety practices.
“I want to appeal to the youth to use tricycles strictly for their intended purpose—transporting goods—and avoid overloading or engaging in unsafe practices that could lead to more tragic losses,” he advised.
