Fire at GRIDCo’s Akosombo substation disrupts power across parts of Ghana

Ghana Grid Company Limited has confirmed that a fire outbreak at its Akosombo Substation in the Eastern Region disrupted power supply to parts of the country.

Emergency response teams were quickly deployed to the site to contain the situation and begin assessment works aimed at determining the extent of the damage.

According to the company, technical teams are currently working to stabilise the system and restore normal power supply as soon as possible.

A statement from GRIDCo assured the public that efforts are ongoing to manage the situation and reduce the impact of the disruption.

“We wish to assure the public that our technical teams are actively working to manage the situation, and every effort is being made to stabilise the system and minimise disruptions,” the company said.

GRIDCo added that a full technical evaluation is underway to guide restoration efforts, with further updates expected as more information becomes available.

The company has urged the public to remain calm while restoration works continue, stressing that measures are in place to bring the system back to normal operation swiftly.
