12 killed, 2 critical in head-on crash at Nkenkensu on Kumasi-Techiman Highway

At least 12 people have died and two others are in critical condition after an Urvan commercial mini-bus with Registration number BA-2913-13 collided head-on with a trailer  with Registration Number GT-9775-25 at Nkenkensu in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region.

The accident occurred Tuesday afternoon when the mini-bus, travelling from Kumasi to Techiman, veered into the lane of an oncoming trailer heading toward Kumasi while attempting to overtake another vehicle.

Eyewitnesses said the impact was severe. Medical staff at Nkenkensu Government Hospital confirmed that all 12 passengers were pronounced dead on arrival, while two survivors are receiving treatment for critical injuries.

An eyewitness identified as Eric told OTEC News the crash happened around 2:00 p.m., but emergency response was slow.

“It took more than an hour before an ambulance arrived to transport the injured victims to the hospital,” he said.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Nkenkensu Government Hospital morgue for identification and preservation.

Police later cleared the wreckage to restore traffic flow and have launched investigations into the cause of the crash.

The tragedy adds to growing concerns over road safety and reckless overtaking on major highways across the country.

Police have renewed calls on drivers to exercise caution and obey traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life.
