Clash between Offinso Technical Institute students and suspected zongo youths leaves six hospitalised

Six students of the Offinso Technical Institute (O.T.I) are receiving treatment at the St. Patrick Hospital at Offinso Maase following a violent clash between students and some suspected Zongo youth on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

The incident reportedly occurred on the school campus a few hours after Eid prayers organised by the Muslim community in the town.

A teacher at the school, who spoke to Angel TV News on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the violence stemmed from an existing feud between the two groups.

“There has been tension between the students and the Zongo boys for some time now, and unfortunately it escalated today,” the teacher told reporter Bismark Mensah.

According to the teacher, the confrontation left several students injured, while many others fled the campus during the chaos and are yet to return.

The suspects are also alleged to have vandalised property on the school premises, including parts of the boys’ and girls’ dormitories as well as the residence of the housemaster.

“The suspected angry Zongo boys destroyed glass windows, doors and other property at both the boys’ and girls’ dormitories and even at the housemaster’s residence,” the teacher stated.

School authorities have since reported the matter to the police in an effort to restore calm and prevent further violence.

“We have made an official complaint to the police, which we believe will help calm the situation. Management of the school and leaders of the Zongo community have also engaged in discussions to find a peaceful way forward,” the teacher added.

Police are yet to officially comment on the incident.
