Nkawie circuit court strikes out teacher-student fight case, orders amicable settlement

The Nkawie Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region has struck out a case involving a student of Nhyinahin Catholic Senior High School and her teacher who were captured in a viral video fighting.

The court struck out the matter after the prosecution pleaded for an out-of-court settlement.

Briefing the media after court proceedings on Wednesday, Ashanti Regional Secretary fpr for the Ghana National Association of Teachers – GNAT, D. K Atakorah , said the prosecution called for an amicable solution after all parties involved reached a consensus to settle the case out of court.

Following the plea by the parties, the Court agreed to the request for an out-of-court resolution.

His Lordship directed that settlement talks be held among three parties: the School Authorities, the Ghana National Association of Teachers – GNAT, and the Family of the Student.

“Amicable resolution protects the dignity of the teaching profession, the welfare of the student, and the learning environment,”_ he stated.

He noted that dialogue remains the best path when disputes involve learners and educators.

The case drew national attention after a video showing the student and teacher in a physical altercation circulated online.

Since then, teachers and education stakeholders have remained on alert as authorities worked to restore calm and order at the school.

With the case now struck out, teachers are urged to remain professional and committed to due process while the school authorities, GNAT, and the student’s family conclude settlement discussions.

Education officials say maintaining decorum will help de-escalate tensions and refocus attention on learning.
