This is wickedness” – Ayew Afriyie accuses NDC of Neglecting Ashanti health facilities

The Minority in Parliament has accused the governing National Democratic Congress, NDC, of meting out what it calls “wickedness” in the distribution of health resources to residents in the Ashanti Region.

The caucus says the NDC government has deliberately neglected the health needs of the Ashanti Region by abandoning several major health infrastructure projects across the area.

The accusation came Wednesday, 10th June 2026, when the Minority caucus toured a number of stalled health facilities in the region.

The visit was led by the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Health Committee, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, who described the state of the projects as “a betrayal of public trust.”

Facilities inspected included the Afari Military Hospital, the Sewua Government Hospital, and several Agenda 111 hospital sites.

According to the Minority, many of the projects have reached an advanced stage of construction but have been left to deteriorate due to lack of funding and political commitment.

Addressing the media during the tour, Dr. Afriyie did not mince words.

“The NDC government has deliberately neglected the health needs of this region, abandoning major health infrastructural projects that would have saved lives. This is not just poor planning, it is wickedness in the sharing of resources,”_ he stated.

The Minority argued that the abandoned hospitals were meant to reduce pressure on existing health facilities in Kumasi and improve access for residents in adjoining communities.

With the projects stalled, patients continue to travel long distances for basic care, while partially built structures are now exposed to the elements and risk going to waste.

Dr. Afriyie called on the government to immediately release funds and prioritize completion of the abandoned hospitals.

He warned that the Minority will use its parliamentary oversight role to keep the issue alive on the floor of the House until action is taken.

“These facilities cannot be left to rot. The people of Ashanti deserve better,”_ he added.
